Description
The Nairobi Animal Orphanage is Kenya’s oldest wildlife rehabilitation center, located within Nairobi National Park. Since 1964, it has provided refuge for injured, orphaned, and rescued wild animals from across the country. Managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the orphanage plays a key role in wildlife care, education, and conservation.
Visitors can enjoy up-close encounters with lions, cheetahs, leopards, baboons, monkeys, hyenas, and a variety of birds including parrots and ostriches. These animals are not just on display—they are part of active rescue, rehabilitation, and awareness programs aimed at restoring and releasing animals back into the wild where possible.
Located just 20 minutes from Nairobi’s city center and easily accessible via Langata Road, the orphanage is an ideal stop for families, tourists, and school groups seeking a meaningful wildlife experience without leaving the city. For more information, visit the official KWS page for the orphanage.
